Overview
The Senior Accountant supports the Corporate Accounting Manager and plays a key role in producing accurate, timely financial information in alignment with GAAP. This role participates in monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, manages assigned general ledger functions, and drives enhancements to accounting processes and controls.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare recurring and non-recurring journal entries and help facilitate the monthly close timeline.
- Compile supporting documentation and schedules for internal and external audit requests, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Partner with auditors by providing requested data, reviewing selections, and offering needed explanations or clarifications.
- Review monthly department-level P&Ls, focusing on marketing and related functions, to determine accrual needs, reclassifications, and adjustments.
- Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset subledger; update monthly rollforwards and record depreciation.
- Oversee lease accounting activity, including right-of-use assets and lease liabilities, and post monthly lease-related entries.
- Perform periodic balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts, investigating discrepancies and resolving items promptly.
- Execute monthly, quarterly, and annual flux analyses for both balance sheet and income statement areas based on established guidelines.
- Validate coding of transactions to ensure alignment with the chart of accounts and budgets; recommend and post reclasses when appropriate.
- Contribute to a robust internal control environment by identifying opportunities to streamline processes or strengthen controls and ensuring documentation remains current.
- Utilize accounting and reporting systems to run analyses, research issues, answer inquiries, and troubleshoot anomalies.
- Conduct ad-hoc research and analysis of accounting transactions as needed.
What You Bring
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Solid understanding of core accounting principles and practices.
- Ability to adapt and operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Strong communication and organizational skills; capable of managing several priorities and meeting tight deadlines.
- Resourceful problem-solver with the initiative to identify issues and propose solutions.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret financial information effectively.
- Experience documenting workflows or creating / maintaining desktop procedures.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and levels within the organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- Master’s degree in Accounting or an active CPA license preferred.
- At least 3 years of progressive accounting experience; exposure to multi-entity or public-company environments is a plus.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems (NetSuite preferred).
- Intermediate Excel capability.
- Strong analytical and technical accounting skills.
- Proven ability to work well with colleagues at various levels to achieve shared goals.
