Controller
The Controller will be responsible for financial integrity, technical accounting, and scalable processes across a diverse portfolio including multifamily residential, hotel operations, food & beverage, and amenities.
This role is both hands-on and strategic- owning close, reporting, lease accounting, and controls today, while building systems that support continued growth and expansion.
Key Responsibilities Accounting & Close
- Own and lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multifamily, hospitality, and operating entities.
- Ensure accurate and timely GAAP-compliant financial statements.
- Oversee general ledger, reconciliations, journal entries, and accruals.
- Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies.
Lease Accounting & Multifamily Operations
- Lead lease accounting for residential, retail and office leases.
- Oversee rent roll reconciliation, revenue recognition, CAM reconciliations, and tenant billings.
- Partner closely with property management and asset management teams
- Ensure clean integration between Entrata/Yardi-type PMS systems and the general ledger.
Hospitality & F&B Accounting
- Oversee accounting for hotel operations, including room revenue, ADR/RevPAR reporting, and OTA reconciliations.
- Manage accounting for restaurants, bars and amenities, including inventory, COGS, and POS integrations (Toast or similar}
- Support margin analysis and operational insights for hospitality leadership.
Audit, Tax & Compliance
- Serve as primary point of contact for external auditors.
- Coordinate with tax advisors on entity compliance, filings, and planning.
- Ensure compliance with lender, ownership, and investor reporting requirements.
Leadership & Team Development
- Build, manage, and mentor an internal accounting staff of seven people.
- Identify and implement process improvements, automation, and system enhancements.
- Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, operations, asset management, and executive leadership.
Documentation
- Assist with documenting all accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to create a standardized transparent framework for financial transactions.
Qualifications
- 10-12+ years of progressive accounting experience, CPA preferred
- Multifamily real estate accounting experience (strongly preferred}
- Lease accounting experience (strongly preferred}
- Hospitality and/or hotel accounting experience (strongly preferred}
- Experience managing multi-entity, multi-location portfolios
- Prior experience as Senior Accounting Manager, Controller or above
- Strong GAAP knowledge
- Experience with property management systems (Entrata, Yardi, or similar}
- POS system integrations (Toast or similar} a plus
