Overview
The Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization’s tax planning, compliance and reporting functions. This role ensures adherence to all federal, state and local tax regulations and monitors current and impending changes. The Tax Manager also provides support related to shareholders’ individual and trust income tax requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage, prepare and review federal, state and local tax returns for various entities, including corporations, partnerships, individuals and trusts.
- Manage information gathering for preparation of corporate tax returns prepared by third parties, including preparation of LIFO and Unicap calculations, review of the company’s tax depreciation schedules and maintenance of airplane disallowance calculations.
- Liaise with government authorities regarding notices and audits of federal and state tax issues.
- Assist with the preparation of income tax provision and tax account reconciliations.
- Provide support to Tax Analyst Senior related to preparation of sales and use tax filings.
- Review and maintenance of financial records in QuickBooks for various shareholder entities.
- Provide analytical and tax research support, assisting in special tax projects as necessary.
- Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.
- Stay current on tax law changes to ensure opportunities and changes are implemented as needed.
- Manage, mentor and develop direct reports – Tax Analyst Senior and Tax Administrator.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting plus 5 to 10 years’ tax experience
- Strong knowledge of federal and multi-state taxation for flow-through entities and general accounting
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to interface with shareholders, outside service providers and non-tax business partners to gather information and convey tax matters
- Ability to work independently with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and strong organizational skills
- Willingness to learn and expand your skills
- Proficient use of MS Office programs (Advanced demonstrated knowledge of Excel)
