The Senior Accountant maintains accurate financial records and ensures transactions comply with GAAP. This role oversees general ledger integrity, reconciliations, month-end close, financial reporting, and analysis, while guiding support staff. The position also supports budgeting, forecasting, audits, and technical accounting matters in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Oversee and provide backup support for AR, AP, and daily transactions
- Prepare daily sales and cash reports
- Maintain chart of accounts, master data, fixed assets, CapEx, and inventory accounting
- Support production, inventory costing, and BOM reviews
- Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and data integrity
- Drive process improvements and accounting best practices
Month-End Close
- Lead monthly close according to established timelines
- Reconcile AR, AP, inventory, bank accounts, and balance sheet accounts
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and amortization schedules
- Produce financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow)
- Perform variance and flux analysis
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Develop annual budgets and quarterly forecasts
- Analyze financial and operational performance
- Prepare costing and pricing analyses
- Maintain accounting dashboards and metrics
- Partner with procurement and plant management on inventory optimization
- Provide ad hoc analysis and reporting to senior management
Technical Accounting & Compliance
- Research and document accounting treatment for complex transactions (e.g., ASC 606, ASC 842)
- Support audits, statutory reporting, and tax filings
- Assist with staff training and accounting documentation
Internal Controls & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulations, and company policies
- Implement cost controls and identify cost-reduction opportunities
- Identify and mitigate financial risks
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA track preferred)
- 4+ years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong GAAP knowledge, financial reporting, and analysis skills
- Experience overseeing AR, AP, and purchasing processes
- MS Dynamics 365 and EDI experience highly preferred
