Our client is seeking a strategic, hands-on Controller to lead and scale their accounting and finance function. This is not a traditional back-office role, this is a high-visibility leadership position with direct exposure to executive leadership, private equity stakeholders, and operational decision-making.
The ideal candidate is a builder, operator, and problem-solver who can function as a true partner to the business, with the capability to grow into a CFO role.
The Opportunity:
You will take ownership of the entire accounting function while helping shape financial strategy, infrastructure, and scalability. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in high-growth, complex environments, including private equity-backed organizations, multi-entity structures, and evolving operational models.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all aspects of accounting operations: month-end close, financial reporting, consolidations, and compliance
- Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing accounting team working in multiple locations
- Partner with executive leadership to provide financial insights, KPI analysis, and strategic recommendations
- Drive system implementations, ERP optimization, and process automation
- Establish and enhance internal controls, policies, and scalable processes
- Support M&A activity, including due diligence, integration, and Quality of Earnings processes, post-close financial structuring
- Oversee cash management, forecast support, and working capital optimization
- Lead audit processes and coordinate with external auditors and advisors
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, HR, and leadership to improve financial visibility and performance
Qualifications:
- 15–20+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including Controller-level leadership
- Strong experience in private equity-backed, multi-entity, or high-growth environments
- Proven success in building and scaling accounting functions
- Deep understanding of GAAP, accrual accounting, and financial reporting
- Hands-on experience with Spectrum and other ERP systems and system implementations (Spectrum, Traqsperra, SAP Concur, Microsoft 365, Agave, Procore)
- Demonstrated involvement in M&A, integrations, or corporate restructuring
- Ability to operate both strategically and tactically—comfortable rolling up sleeves
- Strong leadership presence with excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
