The Assistant Controller provides support to the CFO and Controller in maintaining the financial and accounting systems of the Company to accurately and effectively report the financial results of the Company, its warehouses, retail stores and divisions, adding value that contributes to the growth and success of the organization, and maintaining systems, policies and procedures that safeguard the assets of the Company.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain the accounting systems including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, purchase orders, payroll, cash management and fixed assets.
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements for retail stores, reconciling accounts to subsidiary systems, preparing journal entries and reviewing for reasonableness.
- Provide store managers and others with meaningful financial reports to help them effectively manage the profitability of their stores.
- Respond to requests from managers for special reports or research.
- Monitor financial statements for trends or potential accounting issues with special attention to cash, accounts receivable, inventory, sales, margin, NOI, inventory adjustments and credits.
- Prepare special project and financial analysis reports to executive management to address problems at specific stores.
- Prepare year-end work papers for the independent auditors.
- Work with outside consulting firm to minimize property tax assessments.
- Maintain all real estate records including property leases.
- Develop as an expert in the Company’s ERP system to support other Company personnel in training and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with Store Managers, Regional Manager and Executive Management.
- Perform on-sight internal audit procedures at stores and report findings.
- Assist with physical inventory counts to insure compliance with Company policies.
- Review store expenses to look for potential cost savings.
- Supervise the preparation of A/P check runs for local stores and review to insure that vendor invoices are being paid and coded properly.
- Prepare monthly sales tax returns.
- Assist the Controller and CFO on special projects.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Four year accounting degree preferred but related degrees are acceptable
- Minimum three years accounting experience for a private company or CPA firm
