Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee our financial reporting, risk management, and accounting operations. This key leadership role requires strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to optimizing financial performance. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will play a critical role in financial planning, compliance, and process improvement, driving efficiency across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Compliance
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements, WIP reports, and regulatory filings.
- Maintain and enforce accounting policies and compliance with audit-level standards.
- Manage financial risk, including insurance, bonding, and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Align financial processes with company goals, objectives, and budgets.
- Lead the annual overhead budget process and drive accountability for G&A performance.
- Monitor financial results, analyzing trends, costs, and variances.
- Proactively assess and manage cash flow, ensuring financial stability.
Accounting Operations & Controls
- Oversee monthly close processes, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Manage payroll, benefits, and retirement account payments.
- Review outgoing payments, vendor invoices, and tax filings for accuracy and compliance.
- Supervise tax audits, filings, and franchise/sales tax payments in collaboration with CPA firms.
- Maintain financial systems access and security controls.
Team & Stakeholder Engagement
- Foster a positive and collaborative financial team culture.
- Support cross-functional teams with financial insights and problem-solving.
- Build strong relationships with vendors, auditors, and stakeholders.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 10 years in financial accounting, including 2-3 years as Controller, Interim Controller, or Assistant Controller.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Skills: Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills with expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance.
- Industry Experience: Construction, real estate, or project-based accounting experience preferred
