Responsibilities:
- Manage tax compliance for federal, state, and local returns, including income tax, business personal property tax, sales and use tax, and employment tax filings for approximately 70 operating and 30 real estate entities, including 1040 and state returns, and 1099 filings.
- Oversee the tax team by reviewing and guiding the work of senior accountants and staff, contributing to their professional development and growth.
- Lead the tax provision process for quarterly and annual financial reporting, including tax software management and implementation of updates and new features.
- Coordinate IRS and state audits, ensuring compliance and accurate representation during the audit process.
- Prepare and review various tax filings, including personal property tax returns, W-2s, 1099s, and annual reports.
- Research and resolve tax issues related to federal and state tax regulations, providing clear and actionable guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Monitor tax rates for payroll systems, ensuring accurate employment tax calculations and filings.
- Prepare estimated federal and state income tax payments, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
- Assist with financial planning and analysis, providing tax-related insights for budgeting and strategic planning.
- Maintain a high level of technical knowledge of current tax laws and developments, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Manage tax software systems (CCH Axcess, CCH Engagement) and ensure data integrity and accuracy across all filings.
- Lead tax projects and support cross-departmental initiatives to enhance tax processes, compliance, and reporting.
- Provide internal consulting on tax matters, helping other departments understand and comply with tax regulations.
- Other tax-related projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting (REQUIRED).
- 3+ years of related experience in tax preparation and compliance, with at 2+ years in a leadership or managerial role.
- CPA license preferred; CPA candidate a plus.
- Strong background in pass-through entities (1065, 1120-S).
- Experience with employment tax filings (940, 941, state unemployment).
- Extensive experience with major tax software packages (CCH Axcess, CCH Engagement).
- Demonstrated ability in tax research, compliance, and financial reporting.
- GAAP financial statements understanding and experience.
- Experience with QuickBooks and Sage Intacct preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
