The Staff Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager and aids the organization by accurately completing accounting and financial tasks. The Staff Accountant will perform a variety of accounting duties that are critical to the completion of the financial information that tracks assets, liabilities, profit and loss, and other related financial activities. Additionally, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the accounting department.
Essential Functions and Expectations
- Provide support to the accounting department and other departments within the organization
- Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records and other finance reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conforming to reporting and procedural standards
- Posting transactions for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billback deposits
- Record and reconcile freight payments
- Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and document business transactions
- Perform account reconciliations on company’s key balance sheet accounts
- Demonstrate strong financial acumen and understanding of accounting principles
Relevant Experience and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- 2+ years of related experience required
- Proficiency in use of technology and accounting programs including Microsoft Office and Encompass
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills
- Ability to work autonomously while also working well with others
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Collaborate with other departments to streamline financial processes and provide support as needed
