Position Summary
We are seeking a high-performing Financial Controller to lead and develop the Accounting Department for our client’s manufacturing operations. This is a key leadership role responsible for establishing accounting processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and delivering timely, accurate financial reporting. The ideal candidate will be able to balance strategic oversight with hands-on execution—capable of getting into the details of the monthly close, reconciliations, and reporting while bringing up the department to support long-term growth.
The successful candidate will bring a solid understanding of manufacturing accounting, a passion for building and maintaining processes, and a commitment to accountability and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Stewardship
- Oversee and execute all plant-level accounting operations, including full-cycle general ledger maintenance and entries.
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to deliver accurate and timely financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies, U.S. GAAP, and audit requirements.
- Maintain and enforce internal controls across plant accounting functions.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for external and internal audits.
- Oversee up to two staff members, who support the team in execution on accurate transaction processing and basic workflows.
Reporting & Analysis
- Provide complete, accurate plant-level financial statements with accompanying detailed variance analyses.
- Deliver monthly reporting packages to corporate finance and plant leadership.
- Monitor and explain variances in operating expenses, labor, materials, and overhead, in support of the Operational Plant Controller.
- Ensure data integrity in ERP and other financial systems to support decision-making.
- Identify and implement improvements and efficiencies to financial processes, systems, and reporting.
Inventory & Cost Accounting
- Execute on accurate accounting for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
- Coordinate with operations controller on cycle counts, annual physical inventories, and reconciliation of discrepancies.
- Coordinate with operations controller to identify inaccuracies and identify operational process improvements to support the financial reporting
- Maintain accurate standard costs in ERP; monitor cost variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Partner with operations controller to ensure accuracy across RM, WIP, and finished goods, as well as physical counts and costing.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Compliance Support
- Lead plant-level budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Provide accurate cost and spending data to support financial planning.
- Provide capital expenditure tracking and compliance with corporate approval policies.
- Provide financial insight into investment or cost-reduction initiatives.
Operational Partnership & Strategic Support
- Work with operations controller and operations leaders to ensure timely and accurate capture of production and efficiency metrics.
- Translate operational results into financial impacts to ensure plant leadership has visibility into performance drivers.
- Drive initiatives to improve EBITDA, cash-flow, and working capital performance.
- Partner cross-functionally to strengthen accountability for costs, variances, and inventory accuracy, utiliziing KPI dashboards and actionable insights.
- Partner cross-functionally to track and forecast manufacturing costs, headcount, capex, and operational metrics.
- Contribute to upholding accountability across operational and financial processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA/CMA preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in a manufacturing environment. Food manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
- Strong accounting skills and a proven track record in month-end close, reconciliations, and controls.
- Knowledge of cost accounting, inventory management, and operational finance.
- Experience with ERP systems (Sage 100 or similar) and strong Excel/data analysis skills.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
