The Payroll Manager is a key member of the Employee Services team, responsible for overseeing all payroll operations and ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing. This role leads a team of payroll professionals and partners cross-functionally to support organizational goals, compliance requirements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the payroll team to ensure accurate and timely processing ofmulti-state payrolls, adhering to payroll rules, exception policies, and criticaldeadlines.
- Develop, implement, and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and operationsaligned with organizational standards. Document payroll and HR payroll processesusing standardized operating procedures (SOPs).
- Establish and monitor internal controls to support payroll accuracy andcompliance, including coordination with audit and SOX requirements.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalabilityof payroll operations.
- Oversee tax filings, garnishments, and other statutory deductions, ensuringcompliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, Internal Audit, IT, and Operations to leverage payrolldata for strategic decision-making.
- Support mergers and acquisitions by providing payroll due diligence and integrationexpertise.
- Manage payroll testing and change control processes in coordination with the HRISteam for Workday semi-annual releases.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, including multi-state payroll management.
- Proven leadership experience with an inclusive and collaborative management style.
- Strong relationship-building and influencing skills across cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and develop team members.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Workday Payroll and ADP Smart Compliance.
- Experience with union payrolls is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
