Under general supervision, the Generalist provides HR related support to the company which may include but are not limited to onboarding, employee relations, benefits, leave management, employee changes, offboarding and interaction with vendors. The Generalist, along with the team, supports the day-to-day people-related services, policies, and programs and assists company managers with HR needs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Gain a basic understanding of a wide variety of HR policies and programs regarding employees (e.g., changes, termination, employment verification, orientation/onboarding, leave management, workers compensation, FMLA, etc.)
- Complies with record-keeping procedures (e.g., maintaining files, offers, agreements, background, and drug checks) for the purpose of conforming to policies, relevant laws, and agreements. Informs manager of non-compliance.
- Supports the new-employee onboarding process, day-to-day employee needs and the exit process.
- Maintains clean department records and reports. Participates in team meetings and networks in the HR community.
- May recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements.
- Responds to written and verbal inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources for the purpose of resolving problems, providing information, and/or referring to the appropriate person and/or identifying the relevant issues and recommending or implementing a plan.
- Supports the team on processes, procedures, and policies, ensuring that best practices are followed.
- Performs other duties as required and assigned.
Qualification and Skills
- Able to build working relationships with both internal and external customers.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Under advisement, able to handle basic employee conflicts.
- Experience with or ability to quickly learn Microsoft Office and ExponentHR payroll (HR Information System) systems
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Exceptional at maintaining confidentiality
Education and Experience
- Requires high school graduation or equivalent
- A minimum of 2 years of Human Resources experience is preferred
- Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification a plus
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods at a desk and working on a computer in a home or office environment
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
