Director – Operational Accounting
We are looking for a Director of Operational Accounting to lead and improve our accounting functions within a rapidly growing, complex environment. Based in Irving, this role will be responsible for overseeing all operational accounting aspects, ensuring financial integrity, optimizing accounting processes, and fostering a culture of excellence throughout the organization. The focus of this position will be on business transformation, automation, and process enhancements to ensure our accounting operations remain efficient, scalable, and aligned with the latest technology trends.
As a key financial leader, you will guide high-volume, routine transactions while ensuring top-tier performance analysis, internal reporting, and compliance. You will manage intricate global financial processes involving multiple legal entities, jurisdictions, intercompany transactions, and working capital accounts (A/R, prepaids, inventory, and fixed assets), all while ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. Additionally, you will create a center of excellence for capital-intensive operations, including managing capital assets, inventory, and project and cost accounting.
This role requires collaboration with senior leadership, including teams from Finance, Treasury, Tax, Legal, Procurement, IT, and Operations, to create scalable, technology-driven accounting solutions that enhance operational efficiency and accuracy. Strong leadership, in-depth operational accounting expertise, and the ability to lead transformation in a fast-paced environment are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Operational Accounting team to ensure the smooth execution of daily financial tasks such as cash management, accounts receivable, rent, prepaids, fixed assets, inventory, and reconciliations.
- Establish a center of excellence for managing highly capital-intensive projects in high-performance computing centers (data centers), implementing activity-based cost models to allocate costs based on capacity utilization.
- Build and develop project accounting capabilities to track and monitor spending against Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts.
- Identify and implement automation tools to optimize high-volume transaction processes, leveraging platforms such as D365, Coupa, OneStream, and Concur.
- Collaborate with teams in Technology, Procurement, Operations, Finance, Tax, and Treasury across the US, UK, and offshore locations to create scalable, automated, end-to-end accounting solutions that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency.
- Provide strategic direction for operational accounting, ensuring alignment with broader corporate financial objectives.
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls and governance structures to maintain financial integrity.
- Lead process improvement initiatives, focusing on adopting best practices, automation, and operational excellence.
- Provide executive-level insights and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and offer data-driven recommendations to improve financial outcomes.
- Build and nurture a high-performing accounting team, promoting a culture of accountability, growth, and continuous learning.
- Design and implement top-tier training and development programs to enhance technical and leadership skills within the team.
- Foster a data-driven decision-making culture, using analytics to uncover transaction trends and identify financial discrepancies.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial close processes across multiple entities, emphasizing efficiency and compliance.
- Oversee the accuracy of intercompany transactions, ensuring proper recording and eliminations during consolidation.
- Stay informed about industry trends, accounting regulations, and emerging technologies, proactively advising on best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree and/or CPA preferred).
- Over 10 years of progressive leadership experience in accounting, with a focus on operational accounting in a multi-entity environment.
- Deep expertise in GAAP, internal controls, inventory management, fixed assets, and cost accounting.
- Extensive experience with capital-intensive projects, logistics, and cost accounting (experience with high-performance computing centers, manufacturing, utilities, or telecom is a plus).
- Proven experience in implementing automation solutions and driving efficiency in accounting operations.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with a track record of influencing executive teams.
- Expertise in financial platforms such as D365, Blackline, OneStream, Coupa, or similar systems.
- Experience with international accounting and tax regulations is a plus (VAT, Economic Substance, Pillar 2, UK GAAP, IFRS, etc.).
