Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accounting Controller to join our finance team, reporting to the CFO. The Controller will play a crucial, hands-on role in the timely and accurate delivery of the Company’s financial statements and overall ownership of the accounting records and system. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of oil and gas accounting principles, exceptional analytical skills with proven system knowledge and strong leadership qualities.
Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare timely and accurate financial statements on a standalone and consolidated basis, reporting the financial and accounting data results to the internal teams.
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP and industry-specific regulations.
- Liaise with the various business units to develop processes to deliver timely data to meet their reporting needs.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop quarterly financial forecasts and annual budgets to be used as comparatives in financial reporting.
- Monitor budget performance and work with each business unit to improve forecasting.
- Accounting Systems:
- Key user of the accounting system, responsible for coordinating internal training and data integrity.
- Build continuous process improvements through improved use of technology leading to efficiency gains.
- Lead efforts to expand system reporting to meet stakeholders needs.
- Cash Management:
- Manage asset cash balances and provide weekly cash forecasts to the Treasury Department.
- Monitor banking activities to ensure accurate cash positions.
- Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls, properly accounting for all items, managing accounting system controls and segregation of duties, safeguarding company assets, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Ownership and development of the accounting policies and procedures, ensuring adherence and documentation.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, preparing all necessary supporting information, and address audit findings in a timely manner.
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Build, lead and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Provide guidance and support to team members to enhance their skills and capabilities.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in and knowledge of the Oil and Gas industry is an absolute must.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- CPA designation required.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in oil and gas accounting and finance roles.
- US GAAP reporting expertise required.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including experience with financial reporting and analysis.
- Experience with non-operated working interest acquisitions and joint venture accounting is highly desirable.
- Exposure to both onshore and offshore upstream is a plus.
- Proficiency in financial modeling and analysis, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Quorum ODA system knowledge and experience preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven leadership abilities with a track record of successfully managing teams and driving results.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
