The Controller oversees all accounting and financial reporting functions for the university, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. This role leads daily accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, purchasing, treasury, grants, and endowments, while supervising finance staff and supporting process and systems improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all accounting systems, financial reporting, and audits (including financial statements, IRS filings, and regulatory reports such as IPEDS and NCAA)
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and GAAP standards
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate reporting
- Oversee day-to-day finance operations (AP/AR, payroll, general ledger, purchasing, treasury, endowments)
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and investment activities
- Support budgeting alignment and monitor financial performance
- Coordinate with auditors, banks, and external stakeholders
- Ensure accurate reporting for grants, endowments, and compliance requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory role
Preferred
- CPA or Master’s degree
- Experience in higher education or nonprofit accounting
