Overview of Role:
Our non-profit client in SE Dallas is seeking a Controller for a newly created position. The Controller will work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and leadership team to drive strategic initiatives, ensure financial sustainability, and enhance organizational performance. 

Management:

1. 1. Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives
   2. Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
   3. Manage outsourced functions such as accounting and payroll services
   4. Advise executive management as to the most effective way to structure the company’s accounting system to support the organizations business model
   5. Manage the annual budgeting process

Transactions:

1. Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
2. Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
3. Process payroll in a timely manner
4. Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed
5. Maintain the chart of accounts in a form that supports the organization’s business model as well as complies with nonprofit GAAP
6. Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
7. Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions including approval and support for journal entries
8. Develop and maintain a disciplined monthly close process including a close calendar, close checklist, and journal entry checklist.

1. Stay current on changes in nonprofit GAAP and oversee any required adjustments to accounting policies and procedures as required by nonprofit GAAP.

Restaurant, Retail and Inventory:

1. Create and review the controls needed for data accumulation and reporting systems
2. Coordinate periodic physical inventory counts and cycle counts
3. Track profit margins
4. Ensure the organizations point-of-sale system in designed and implemented properly
5. Work with the Retail managers to optimize profits through pricing and cost efficiency analysis

Analysis:

1. Report on periodic variances to budget and their causes, focusing in particular on spending variances
2. Meet with department managers monthly to review their department’s financial performance
3. Analyze capital budgeting requests

Cash Management:

1. 1. Maintain relationship with the organization’s operating bank
   2. Ensure the company’s bank account structure and related cost are in alignment with the organization’s operating requirements.
   3. Maintain a system of policies and procedures that impose an adequate level of control over cash activities
   4. Proactively work with the bank to identify ways to automate cash management activities such as collections and payments.

Reporting:

1. Issue timely and complete financial statements
2. Coordinate the preparation of the annual report
3. Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
4. Provide for a system of management cost reports

Compliance:

1. Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
2. Coordinate single audit
3. Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
4. Ensure sales tax collections and filings comply with regulations

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required; CPA required.
• Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in financial management with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
• Proven experience in strategic financial planning and execution in a non-profit setting as well as for profit (preferably with restaurant or retail experience).
• Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire stakeholders at all levels.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
