About the Company:
Our client is a fast-growing PE- Backed construction company operating across multiple markets with an ambitious growth trajectory, including ongoing acquisitions. Their finance function is lean, hands-on, and they’re looking for an accounting professional ready to grow with the organization.
Position Overview:
We are searching for a Asst Controller to step into a high-impact role with a clear path to full Controller responsibility. The CFO will continue to oversee parts of the function in the short term, but the long-term goal is full transition of all responsibilities.
This person must be both strategic and execution-driven — someone who’s comfortable leading month-end close, managing a team, jumping into hands-on accounting work, and helping support future acquisitions. This is not a desk-only role; we need someone who takes initiative, enjoys problem-solving, and thrives in a team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and own the month-end close process across multiple entities
- Manage all corporate and holding company accounting activities
- Ensure compliance with various licensing and tax reporting agencies
- Oversee and maintain lease agreements and ensure accurate lease accounting
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls related to A/P, credit card usage, and personnel changes
- Analyze large construction projects (>$5M) and prepare monthly financial status reports for the executive team
- Manage and mentor a team of 7 staff accountants across multiple markets
- Assist with acquisition-related accounting including due diligence and integration
- Contribute to ongoing improvement of NetSuite ERP processes and workflows
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience strongly preferred
- Construction or project-based industry experience is a strong plus
- NetSuite experience is preferred; other ERP systems also considered
- Demonstrated ability to roll up sleeves and contribute at both strategic and transactional levels
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills — able to communicate across departments and lead a distributed team
