The Staff Accountant manages assigned aspects of the general ledger, including transaction recording, oversight, and financial reporting, with a focus on receivables management.
Responsibilities
- The Staff Accountant exercises discretion and independent judgment in regard to such matters as budget analysis, managing cash receipts, managing invoices, setting up and maintaining controls, and recording of financial transactions.
- Supports accounts payable specialists in reviewing, posting and determining invoices to be paid.
- Manages cash receipts and shop detail along with coordination of entry into the Council accounting system.
- Coordinate with Controller in recording product sales revenue, collections, vendor payment and reconciliations; manage all transfers and finance related set ups for troop proceed transactions and council accounts receivable
- Partner with product and retail team on initial recording, tracking and reporting for product incentives (including Girl Scout Bucks).
- Review gift entry received from fund development for coding accuracy and post.
- Review and post journals prepared by Accounting and AP staff.
- Prepare monthly close for Salesforce, Ultracamp and CampDoc and other council systems, including preparation of revenue share entries, endowment income, and other income activity -based on time of year.
- Reconcile various general ledger accounts monthly and prepare journal entries.
- Performs tasks for audit and 990 preparations.
- Provides quality and timely communication to employees and finance team related to accounting matters.
- Provides excellent customer service to internal customers and management team.
- Coordinate preparation of support for governmental and grants compliance and reporting in partnership with fund development and Grants Finance Manager.
- Serve as primary support for all regular accounting activity, in partnership with Controller.
- Cross trains with other accounting staff to provide backup, as needed.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Business, Management, Accounting, or related field or equivalent job experience.
- 3-4 years of Accounting experience.
- Experience with Sage Fund Accounting is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communications skills.
- Experience and ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels of the organization.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
- Demonstrate and promote a climate of courtesy, respect and professionalism to coworkers, the volunteers served by this council, and others with whom her/his job puts her/him in contact. Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
