Senior Cost Accountant
We are looking for a Senior Cost Accountant to manage various aspects of accounting related to the construction and fixed assets for the development of a new high-performance computing facility (data centers). This position will be responsible for ensuring precise financial reporting, cost monitoring, and compliance throughout the entire project lifecycle as well as during ongoing operations.
As a key contributor to the accounting team, you will play a crucial role in overseeing capital project expenses, handling construction-in-progress (CIP) accounting, capitalizing fixed assets, and developing cost allocation frameworks. You will collaborate with teams from Finance, Development, Engineering, Procurement, Operations, Corporate Accounting, FP&A, and Tax to guarantee that financial reporting is completed accurately and in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and reconcile construction-in-progress (CIP) accounts, ensuring proper tracking and timely asset capitalization.
- Record and review project-related journal entries, accruals, and reclassifications in line with GAAP and company policies.
- Collaborate with Construction, Engineering, Procurement, and Operations teams to align financial goals with project timelines and milestones.
- Help develop and implement a cost allocation framework to charge back costs to end-users based on capacity utilization and other relevant metrics.
- Ensure strict adherence to capitalization policies and proper classification of project costs.
- Assist in the preparation of reports for capital projects, including WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules, asset roll-forwards, and budget-versus-actual analyses.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes by preparing reconciliations and financial reports related to cost accounting.
- Monitor capital expenditures to ensure they stay within approved project budgets.
- Assist with variance analysis, providing insights into cost drivers and project financial performance.
- Work with Corporate Accounting and FP&A teams to guarantee accurate financial reporting and forecasts.
- Collaborate with Tax and Treasury teams to ensure proper asset capitalization, depreciation schedules, tax compliance, and cash forecasting.
- Contribute to process improvements and the implementation of automation in cost accounting and reporting systems.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, financial controls, and external reporting requirements for capital projects and fixed assets.
- Prepare necessary audit documentation and assist during internal audits focused on cost accounting.
- Stay up-to-date on accounting regulations, industry trends, and best practices to ensure operational excellence and compliance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- At least 3 years of accounting experience, focusing on cost accounting, construction accounting, or fixed asset management.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP and capital cost accounting principles.
- Experience with construction-in-progress (CIP) accounting and financial reporting for capital-heavy projects.
- Proficiency in financial systems like D365, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across teams.
- Experience in capital-intensive industries, such as high-performance computing facilities, infrastructure, real estate development, or construction, is a plus.
