Overview
Our client, is seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to oversee capital project accounting and help modernize how capital-related processes are executed across a fast-growing, multi-site organization. This role will serve as a key partner to the Director of Accounting and senior leadership, owning capital accounting judgment while helping drive centralization, consistency, and process improvement across the accounting function.
This is a player-coach role ideal for someone with strong technical accounting roots who is comfortable operating in a dynamic, evolving environment and partnering closely with operational stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Capital Management & Accounting Oversight
- Oversee capital project accounting, including CIP, capitalization vs. expense determination, fixed assets, and lease qualification
- Review and qualify capital requests, ensuring adherence to company capitalization policies and GAAP
- Partner with course-level operators to educate and reinforce proper capitalization guidelines
- Maintain clean, accurate accounting for capital projects from initiation through placement in service
- Oversee lease request processes and coordination of loss and damage event tracking
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
- Actively participate in and oversee assigned monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Review financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, variance analyses, and audit schedules
- Ensure timely, accurate reporting for capital-related accounts and schedules
Leadership & Team Development
- Manage and coach a junior Fixed Asset Accountant, providing structure, guidance, and professional development
- Serve as a day-to-day leader within the capital accounting function, balancing execution and review
- Develop training materials, documentation, and standardized procedures
Process Improvement & Transformation
- Partner with accounting leadership to identify opportunities to centralize, streamline, and improve processes
- Lead or support initiatives such as centralizing CIP reconciliations
- Serve as a key accounting representative in system upgrades and ERP planning, including testing and process design
- Collaborate closely with transformation and systems teams (e.g., BlackLine, AP/PO tools)
Business Partnership
- Interface with executive leadership and senior stakeholders to provide updates on capital projects and accounting status
- Act as a trusted business partner, delivering clear, practical guidance while maintaining professional skepticism
- Support broader accounting efficiency initiatives as a right-hand partner to the Director of Accounting
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 5+ years of combined experience in corporate accounting and public accounting/audit
- 3+ years of experience managing or mentoring accounting staff
- Strong understanding of capital accounting, CIP, fixed assets, leases, and GAAP
- Hands-on, detail-oriented mindset with comfort working in evolving environments
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both financial and operational teams
- Advanced Excel skills
Preferred
- Public company and/or SOX controls exposure
- Experience in multi-unit, hospitality, property management, or similar environments
