The Role: As our Assistant Controller, you’ll play a key role in maintaining the finacial integrity of our operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. As the Assistant Controller, your duties in this position include:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and statutory accounting principles (SAP) in a timely and accurate manner.
- Manage and reconcile general ledger accounts, including journal entries and month-end close processes.
- Support the Treasurer and Asst. Treasurer with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and assist in enhancing financial policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with auditors, regulators, and external stakeholders during audits and examinations.
- Prepare and file regulatory and statutory reports as required by state insurance departments.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends and opportunities for performance improvement.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining accounting systems and software enhancements.
- Support tax preparation, investment accounting, and cash management activities.
- Mentor and oversee the work of junior accounting staff or clerks, as needed.
- Ad-hoc reports and analysis, as needed.
- Other projects and duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
What You’ll Bring:
- CPA License or CPA Candidate required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s degree preferred
- 3 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance in Insurance industry.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)
- Superior attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multitask multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to maintain relationships.
- Advanced competency in Microsoft Excel and strong analytical capabilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Operating Systems and Office products including, but not limited to Outlook and Teams.
