The North America Accounts Payable (AP) Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of Accounts Payable operations across the corporate office, Canadian and US entities. This role ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of vendor payments, expense processing, and AP-related controls while driving process improvements and standardization across regions. The North American AP Manager will lead, mentor, and develop a geographically dispersed team to deliver high-quality, customer-focused AP services.
About the Role:
Leadership & Oversight
- Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership for AP teams.
- Manage, coach, and develop AP staff across locations to build a strong, collaborative, and high-performing, service-oriented team.
- Partner with local finance leaders to align AP operations with business needs and regional compliance.
Operational Excellence
- Oversee end-to-end AP processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and standardization of invoice processing, vendor payments, and employee reimbursements.
- Implement consistent policies, procedures, and best practices across North America to optimize efficiency and maintain internal controls.
- Monitor KPIs and service levels to ensure operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, Canadian regulations, SOX/internal controls, and local tax/legal requirements (e.g., U.S. sales & use tax, Canadian GST/HST).
- Coordinate with internal audit, tax, and financial reporting teams to ensure proper documentation, reconciliations, and audit readiness.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive financial, vendor, and employee data, enforcing secure practices and access controls.
- Develop and maintain AP-related policies, approving exceptions only when appropriate.
- Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the point of escalation for vendor and internal stakeholder issues, ensuring timely resolution.
- Collaborate closely with Procurement, Treasury, and Operations to align AP processes with purchasing and cash management strategies.
- Partner with IT/ERP support teams to manage AP-related technology and automation initiatives.
- Process Improvement & Innovation
- Identify opportunities to streamline AP operations, automate processes, and improve accuracy through system enhancements and digital tools.
- Champion initiatives to standardize cross-border AP activities while respecting local differences and legal requirements.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or equivalent a plus) preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive AP or accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a management/supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. and Canadian AP practices, tax requirements, and financial regulations.
- Experience working in multi-entity, cross-border environments.
- Proficiency with SAP ERP systems, Concur, and other AP automation tools.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills across diverse regions and cultures.
- Demonstrated ability to manage change, implement process improvements, and drive results.
- Experience processing annual 1099 filings, verifying vendor information and managing W-9 tax forms
