Accountant II
Job Summary
The Accountant II independently executes core month-end close tasks, reconciliations, and development cost accounting activities, identifying issues and proposing solutions while escalating matters requiring judgment or policy interpretation to the Development Controller.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute month-end close activities including journal entries, accruals, and assigned reconciliations; ensure completeness and accuracy to close deadlines.
- Prepare and maintain recurring close schedules, tie-outs, and variance explanations; escalate issues with clear root cause and proposed resolution.
- Prepare JE support, reconciliations, and workpapers with documented conclusions and perform thorough self-review for completeness and audit readiness prior to review by Senior Staff or the Development Controller.
- Support development accounting workflows: validate invoice coding, maintain support for pay applications/approvals, and ensure audit-ready documentation.
- Support job cost and pay application governance by validating coding consistency, approval completeness, and retainage considerations; flag anomalies early and propose corrective actions.
- Prepare audit and internal review schedules/workpapers; respond to information requests with well-organized support.
- Prepare selected tax workpapers requested by Corporate Tax for review by the Project Controller.
- Reconcile accounts payable between the general ledger and subsidiary ledger; support invoice processing and signature routing as needed.
- Partner with Project Ops/PMs and Corporate Accounting to resolve accounting issues and improve reporting accuracy.
- Support internal controls and policy adherence; document processes and control points.
- Contribute to system and process improvements (e.g., Sage/Intacct readiness), including documentation and testing support.
- Perform special projects and ad hoc reporting as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- CPA or public accounting background preferred; strong construction or real estate development accounting experience may substitute
- 4–7 years of relevant accounting experience; construction/real estate development accounting experience preferred.
- Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivots, multi-entity/multi-tab workpapers) and systems aptitude; Sage Intacct experience a plus.
- High attention to detail with strong self-review habits; able to deliver accurate work with minimal supervision.
- Strong organization and deadline management; able to prioritize during close and audit cycles.
- Clear communication skills; able to coordinate effectively across Accounting, Project teams, and Corporate partners.
- Comfort working with document-heavy workflows and producing audit-ready support.
- Experience with Sage Intacct, Timberline/Construction systems, and Floqast is a plus.
