Assistant Controller
Position Summary
The Assistant Controller will support the day-to-day accounting operations across multiple international entities while preparing to assume the Controller role. This role will initially function as a hands-on leader responsible for general ledger accounting, financial reporting, treasury support, account reconciliations, month-end close, and audit support. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills, manufacturing accounting experience, and the leadership potential to grow into a Controller position.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and manage general accounting functions across U.S., Mexico, and UK entities.
- Lead monthly close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial reporting packages for management review.
- Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts and maintain supporting documentation.
- Assist with treasury operations, including cash forecasting, banking activities, and cash management.
- Support annual external audits and prepare audit schedules and workpapers.
- Assist with sales tax, VAT, and other tax compliance reporting requirements.
- Support inventory accounting using standard cost methodology and monitor inventory reconciliations and physical inventory results.
- Analyze sales, COGS, margins, inventory activity, and SG&A expenses.
- Communicate with plant managers and operational leaders to review financial performance.
- Review employee expense reports and support AP/AR functions as needed.
- Establish, document, and monitor internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Serve as a key user of NetSuite ERP and assist with process improvement initiatives.
- Provide financial analysis and support to executive leadership.
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
- Experience with multi-entity accounting and financial consolidations.
- Manufacturing accounting experience with knowledge of standard cost inventory accounting preferred.
- Experience with treasury management, financial reporting, and audit coordination.
- Understanding of sales tax, VAT, and general tax compliance requirements.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Experience with ERP systems; NetSuite strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact across all levels of the organization.
- Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Education and Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- Active CPA required.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably including Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or equivalent responsibilities in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in manufacturing environments required.
- Experience in private equity is strongly preferred.
- Experience with multi-entity organizations, consolidations, and international operations required.
- Experience with inventory accounting and standard costing required.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience required.
