Our client in the Oil & Gas space is seeking a Staff Accountant to support their corporate accounting operations and accounts payable processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, cash applications, and month-end close. This role helps ensure timely, accurate invoice processing and payment execution, responds to vendor inquiries, and partners with internal teams to research and resolve discrepancies.
Responsibilities
Staff Accountant
- Process cash applications and ensure accurate posting and documentation.
- Record and reconcile AP check voids, ACH returns, and portal payments.
- Prepare ad hoc analyses and journal entries with appropriate support.
- Support month-end close by preparing analyses and posting recurring and non-routine entries.
- Perform timely account reconciliations and investigate variances.
- Perform intercompany accounting activities, including settlements and balance confirmations.
- Upload external trial balances and maintain mappings to the chart of accounts.
- Create and maintain process documentation; participate in continuous improvement efforts across corporate accounting.
Accounts Payable
- Respond to vendor inquiries and monitor the AP inbox; route and resolve issues as needed.
- Upload invoices to OpenInvoice and verify the required supporting documentation for payment.
- Initiate payment proposals in accordance with established controls and approval workflows.
- Resolve errors related to payment proposals, OpenInvoice, and GR/IR processing; research root causes and coordinate corrections.
- Enter EFT and check requests, and validate key vendor and remittance details.
Required Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and internal controls.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Required Experience & Education
- Bachelor’s degree required; Accounting strongly preferred.
- 1–3 years of accounting experience.
- CPA or CPA-eligible is a plus.
