Irving area client is seeking a Senior Manager, Accounts payable to join their team on a contract basis.
Client is seeking an experienced Senior Accounts Payable Manager to lead and execute day-to-day Accounts Payable operations during an active period of organizational transformation. This role is critical to ensuring business-as-usual continuity, accuracy, and timeliness across a complex AP environment while broader change initiatives occur in parallel.
This is a highly hands-on leadership role requiring deep operational expertise. The ideal candidate is a seasoned AP professional who is comfortable working directly in the details, managing complex processes, and resolving a wide range of operational exceptions while providing steady leadership to the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and actively manage full-cycle Accounts Payable operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices for U.S. and international vendors
- Provide hands-on oversight of daily AP activities, stepping in as needed to resolve issues and ensure continuity of operations
- Monitor and manage AP inboxes and inquiry queues, ensuring prompt, accurate responses and clear accountability within the team
- Directly oversee invoice coding and approval workflows, ensuring proper routing, expediting approvals when required, and resolving aged or unapproved invoices
- Identify, investigate, and resolve complex AP exceptions, including pricing discrepancies, PO and non-PO mismatches, approval delays, vendor disputes, and system or integration issues
- Maintain close control of AP aging and vendor balances, proactively identifying risks, bottlenecks, and recurring exception trends
- Play a key hands-on role in month-end close, including preparation, review, and validation of accruals
- Ensure internal controls are consistently applied and operating effectively in a complex, multi-entity environment
- Lead and execute the annual 1099 process across multiple legal entities
- Train, mentor, and support AP staff, setting clear expectations and maintaining high standards for accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism
- Serve as a steady operational partner to internal stakeholders and vendors, resolving issues and maintaining strong working relationships
- Support continuity and knowledge transfer while larger transformation initiatives progress, without being responsible for leading the transformation itself
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field
- 10 years of Accounts Payable progressive experience in complex, high-volume environments
- 7+ years of experience managing AP teams
- Deep knowledge of AP operations, internal controls, and accounting best practices
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 or other large ERP systems preferred
- Coupa experience strongly preferred
